China's labor market to be reshaped
|
31-Mar-2005 - People's Daily |
Significant changes will take place in China's job market in terms of its structure, announced Mo Rong, an official with the Ministry of Labor and Social Security on March 30.
Mo said by 2010 the population of the employed in China would reach 797 million in the case that the employment elasticity remained unchanged over the years.
Given the outflow of the number of the employed from the first industry, vision of future urbanization, as well as the rise of employment in the second and tertiary industries, it is estimated that the labor force will migrate to the second and tertiary industries from the first industry at a faster pace till 2010.
As a result, the first, second and the tertiary industry will absorb 40 percent, 24 percent and 36 percent employment respectively by then.
Mo also released that the fast migration of China's rural population to urban areas since 2001 would continue till 2010. Some 160 million to 180 million farmers will settle in towns and cities over this period. This means that 14.93 million to 16.62 million rural residents will relocate in urban areas every year.
Mo made the remarks at a employment promotion forum.
