China's largest container dock at Waigaoqiao area of Shanghai's Pudong New District received its first container ship at 18:30 p.m. on Feb. 17 and unloaded all 2,545 containers in about 20 hours, says the China Ocean News.
Covering 1.63 square kilometers and with a 1,250 meter coast line, the dock boasts four 14.5 meter-deep water berths, each measuring 14.5 meters in profundity, and 12 bridge cranes featuring 63-meter arms placed at intervals of 100 meters.
Completed at the end of last year following 33 months of intense construction, the dock is capable of loading and unloading containers from all types of container ships.
Designed to handle 1.8 million standardized containers, the dock is currently still only 50 percent operational.
