China sees large increase in wine imports

In recent years China has witnessed an increase in wine imports, with some 60,600 thousand liters being imported in the first seven months of this year, up 88.8 percent from last year, according to China Food Industry Net.
In 2005 China imported nearly 53,000 thousand liters of wine, of which 20 percent were small packages (under two liters), said Wang Qi from the Chinese Alcoholic Drinks Industry Association. This proportion dropped to 14 percent between January and July this year.
During this period the wine output of China's major producers was 256,300 liters, up 20.2 percent from last year.
