|
11-Mar-2005 - China Radio International |
Director of the State Forestry Administration Zhou Shengxian is urging Chinese people to plant more trees to help improve the ecological environment.
On the eve of China's Arbor Day, which falls on March 12th, Zhou Shengxian also disclosed that China plans to plant 7.3 million hectares of woodlands this year.
The director says China has planted 6.6 million hectares of forests each year for the last three years and the development of China's forestry resources remains positive.
However, China's forest coverage rate remains below the global average and soil erosion is still a major problem across the country.
Zhou Shengxian stresses that the development of forestry is an important part of building a harmonious society. |
