China to build 56 airports in the next 5 years

A total of 56 airports will be constructed during China's 12th Five Year Plan (2011-2015) to reduce pressure on the nation's airline industry, China National Radio reported on Wednesday.
According to Wu Zhouhong, a high official in the Civil Aviation Administration of China, China will invest 425 billion yuan (about ?65 billion) in 56 newly-built airports, 91 airport expansions and 16 airport relocations during the next five years.
Thus far, China has 175 civil aviation airports, an insufficient amount to meet growing demand. |
