Chinese leaders' sedans roll into Hong Kong
|
24-Dec-2002 - |
Three sedans that were specially made for three Chinese leaders -- Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping and Jiang Zemin -- rolled into Hong Kong on Dec.7 to meet the exciting audience. The first sedan Chinese developed by themselves in 1958 and two sample sedans after which the reviewing sedans that Deng Xiaoping and Jiang Zemin rode on at the respective occasions of the 35th and 50th National Day military parade were made are presented at Hong Kong's downtown Times Square. Director of Hong Kong Red Flag Club York Y. K. Wong was extremely happy about the opportunity of viewing the sedans at his doorstep. Wong recalled that he first saw Red Flag sedan, one of the products of the FAW Group Corporation of China based in northeast China's Jilin Province, in the 1970s in Hong Kong as a 14-year-old boy, amazed at the fact that China could produce such advanced sedans despite adverse circumstances at home and abroad. He stated that he queued several times in line that day for more chances to see the sedan's inside and outside carefully. "This time, I am no less excited even though I already have four red flag sedans of my own," Wong rendered, adding that watching these sedans with his own eyes made him more awed than viewing them on TV screen. Wong pointed out his love for red flag sedans stems from what he calls "red flag spirit" which demonstrates to the world that Chinese people have noble aspirations and strong determinations that enable them to achieve miracles. Wong noted that this kind of spirit can help Hong Kong people overcome their current economic difficulties in their strive for a better life. The sedan show is arranged as part of the "2002 Hong Kong-Jilin Friendship Week" from Dec. 4 to Dec. 8, which comprises a series of activities including economic and trade consultation and cooperation and cultural exchanges. The FAW Group Corporation of China was founded in 1953. Currently it makes over 200 versions of 6 series of vehicles with an annual capacity of 400,000 units, which makes it the largest auto-industry base in China. In the past 40 years more than 4 million vehicles have been produced from there, with exports to over 30 countries and regions. |
