Chinese traditional medicine popular in ROK
|
18-Nov-2002 - |
Many young people in the Republic of Korea (ROK) consider learning traditional Chinese medicine a good choice, said Kyu-Hwan Yang, a noted ROK professor.
Yang, president of the Research Institute of Bio-science and Bio-technology, made the remarks at the 2002 International Seminaron Modernizing Traditional Chinese Medicine, which closed recently in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province.
"Traditional Chinese medicine is well received in the ROK," Yang said. "Many people seek help not only from acupuncture when they are hurt, but also from herbal Chinese medicines when they catch a cold."
China has accumulated unrivaled rich theoretical and clinical experience in traditional medicine over several thousands of years. The ROK and Japan have become big sellers of traditional Chinese medicine and nearly 1,000 ROK students are studying at medical colleges in various parts of China, Yang said.
Yang said his institute has 700 research fellows who are engaged in the development of natural medicine, and he hopes to enhance cooperation on bio-pharmacy with Sichuan, known as the "land of traditional Chinese medicine" -- on bio-pharmacy.
