|
4-Feb-2004 - |
On January 31, construction of No. 5 Subway line was begun in nearly 50 worksites, which indicated the kick-off of the overall construction of No. 5 subway line. This subway line involves huge engineering work, in which China Railway 16th Bureau, responsible for construction of three sections, has 500 workers involved in the construction.
To avoid influence to the city center, all 8 stations in old city areas where No. 5 line runs through will employ covert tunneling technology, which set a record in the history of subway construction both domestically and internationally.
Running from Songjiazhuang in Fengtai District in the south to Dongsanqi in Changping District in the north, the No. 5 line is 27.6 kilometers long with 24 stations. It crosses the south and north moats, No.1 and No.2 lines at a 20-meter depth. The project is expected to complete this year.
