Dell invests more in China
|
24-Mar-2006 - xinhuanet |
the world's leader in personal computers, says it plans to create 200 new jobs and ramp up investment in China amid strong sales growth here.
"This expansion is an important next step for us to further enhance our global product innovation and to support our business growth in China and around the world," company chairman Michael Dell said in a statement.
The extra jobs would be created at its new research and design center in the economic hub of Shanghai, although no details were given on how much extra money would be invested.
The extra commitment in China comes as Dell's business here is growing by more than twice the market average, company spokeswoman Sharon Zhang said.
Product shipments to China, Dell's third-largest market, are forecast to grow by more than 40 percent in the first quarter of the year, after rising by 28 percent in the previous quarter.
Dell's performance in the China market, which is worth around US$2 billion for the company, is outperforming global industry growth of 15 to 16 percent, the group said.
China unit sales grew 28 percent last year, while in India, where Dell recently announced preliminary plans for a new factory, sales expanded 43 percent, and South Korea rose 78 percent.
The extra jobs in China come after Dell announced this week it would add 700 more jobs at its newly opened customer service center in the Philippines.
