Dupont to invest $1 bln in Shandong

US-based Dupont company will invest 1 billion US dollars to build a world-class titanium dioxide factory in Dongying City in east China's Shandong Province, the city government confirmed on Wednesday.
This will be the largest sum of investment Dupont has ever launched overseas since it was founded 200 years ago. It will also be Dupont's biggest project in China, company sources said.
The planned factory will start operation in 2010, producing 200,000 tons of titanium dioxide annually.
Some auxiliary projects including an alkali-chlorine factory, athermal power plant and an air separation plant will be built simultaneously to eventually form an integrated industrial park.
Dupont had also announced investment plans in Shanghai, Shenzhen and Changshu cities, which will help double the company's investment in China by 2010.
According to the Shandong provincial foreign trade and economic cooperation bureau, the province had approved establishment of 50 foreign-funded projects with each involving an investment of at least 100 million US dollars.
