E. China province shortens customs clearance procedures
|
10-Mar-2003 - |
Imported goods can now clear customs within an hour of arriving at three airports in east China's Shandong province. In the past, import companies could apply for clearance only after cargoes arrived at airports, usually in the afternoon, and remove their goods the next day. But Qingdao, Yantai and Jinan international airports have instituted new customs clearance procedures allowing the related companies to apply to customs while their cargoes are still in the air. After essential checks, imported cargoes could be removed from airports in about one hour, said Zou Zhiwu, director of Qingdao Customs. "Under the new procedures, I can await my cargo with the approved customs declaration, which makes my firm more competitive in the market," said Manager Wang of the Bangda freight agency. This new procedure is based on the link between databases of China's customs and the Societe Internationale de Telecommunications Aeronautiques (SITA), which makes it possible for the customs to obtain information about the inbound cargo after take-off. With the rapid growth of local economy, air transport has grown rapidly in Shandong province. |
