Electronic Customs Now Used in E. China

The customs department in Ningbo bonded area in Zhejiang Province, east China, has begun using a self-designed regional information management system making it the first in the country to have an electronic customs system. Relying on world-class information processing and network techniques, the system will help local customs officers improve their handling of routine work including processing, storage, customs declaration, surveillance of cargo flow, management of businesses, tax reductions and tax concessions. In addition, a 24-hour service now becomes available to processors and storage businesses within the bonded area. As businesses can deal with almost every customs affair on line by making direct connection to the customhouse, local business environments will improve and companies' transaction costs will decline. Sources from the bonded area say that use of this system is in line with the general trends in global distribution sectors and will control the distribution of goods more efficiently.(xinhua) |
