Fashion inspires Tourism Malaysia
|
25-Nov-2004 - |
TOURISM Malaysia plans to invigorate the local fashion industry and turn the country into Asia's shopping and fashion hub with a series of seminars on trend forecasting.
The seminars would enable the players concerned to access the vital markets and generate brand names to compete in the global fashion arena, Tourism Minister Datuk Dr Leo Michael Toyad, said at the launch of Kuala Lumpur-Asia Fashion Week last night.
"In the UK, the fashion industry is the third largest revenue earner for the economy. Great potentials also exist for Malaysia given the multi-faceted culture and traditions of the country, for creative inspiration to be duly reciprocated upon.
"Success for Malaysia is about generating creative ideas and transforming them into world-class products." He said Tourism Malaysia would continue to support such a significant event which saw 150 delegates comprising foreign designers and media brought in for the eight-day programme, which includes an Asian fashion trade exhibition, grand sale and fashion awards ceremony.
The creations of 81 Asian designers from 13 countries (Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, Australia, Taiwan, Singapore, Myanmar, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines) are also showcased.
