|
15-Jun-2004 - |
Malaysia hopes to enhance its aviation relationship with China to include securing fifth freedom rights for Malaysian carriers, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy says. Datuk Chan, who has left for an eight-day working visit to China, said fifth freedom rights would allow the carriers to pick up passengers from transit points en route to the destination. We will explore the possibility of relaxing further our aviation arrangement with China which is already very open. He is meeting the Chinese Aviation Minister and Communications Minister during his visit. The current agreement allows Malaysian carriers to fly to 16 Chinese cities. So far, only five have been taken up, with Malaysia Airlines flying directly to Beijing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Xiamen. By the end of this year, he said two more Chinese cities ¨C Chengdu and Kunming ¨C would be covered, while Wuhan would be added next year. |
