PB Air is planning its first ever scheduled service linking Thailand with China and hopes to add additional routes in 2005.
Starting in November the airline will introduce a daily service from Bangkok to Shantau, a major city about 400 kilometres south of Beijing, using a Boeing 737 configured with about 140 seats.
PB Air president, Captain Jothin Pamon-Montri, said as many as 80 per cent of the Thai-Chinese living in Thailand originated from this city and most of them want to visit the place of birth of their ancestors and met up with relatives there.
In addition to Thai-Chinese many Singaporeans also originated from Shantau and we are now making arrangements for preferred sales agents in the island-state because we see a ready-made market there as well, he told TTG Daily News today.
The customer base will probably be 70 per cent from Thailand and 30 per cent from Singapore.
Captain Jothin also said PB was studying additional routes into China and he hoped at least one more could be added next year, but nothing definite had been agreed yet.
