Five Sentenced to Death for Drug Trafficking

Five convicted drug traffickers were sentenced to death Monday by a local court in Zhejiang Province. The Intermediate People's Court in Jinhua City sentenced Wang Daohua, Yin Yaxiong, Zhu Zhongfa, Zheng Qiukang and Wang Yan to death in the first trial of the most serious drug smuggling case to be heard in this booming coastal province. The court also ruled that the five be deprived of their political rights for life and all their private property confiscated. A main accomplice of the five, Zhang Chaojian, was sentenced to death with probation. The court investigation showed that the five, headed by Wang Daohua, a native of Shanghai, had formed a drug trafficking ring which between July 2001 and March 2002 had purchased 76.35 kg of heroin from Yunnan Province in southwest China and smuggled most of it into Shanghai. Police in Jinhua seized 20 kg of heroin while busting the ring, court sources said. |
