Free access for Macanese to Hong Kong

Macau residents can now use their smart ID cards to travel to Hong Kong. Under a new agreement between Hong Kong and Macau authorities, it means about 450,000 Macau resident ¨C 95 per cent of the population ¨C will be able to travel without other documents from next month. Residents of Macau at present need a permit to enter Hong Kong. It will boost tourism on both sides of the Pearl River estuary. Many travel agents believe it is only a matter of time before a similar deal is signed between Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong. |
