THE Fujian Provincial Tourism Bureau (FPTB) has announced that in 2007, it will launch a new tourism project aimed at boosting the number of visitors to rural areas in Fujian Province.
According to director general of the bureau, Mr Huang Xiaoyan, the project will see the addition of over 150 rural villages and towns to designated tourist routes throughout the province. Mr Huang said that tourism to different areas would be explored in batches on a trial basis to gauge market demand and sustainability.
Mr Huang also commented that the bureau would release new "rural travel products" and information onto the market over the course of the year.
Since late 2006, the FTPB has developed over 20 designated tourist routes to rural areas in the province, and this year plans to focus on promoting rural folk culture and architecture. |
