Scotland's Glamis Castle and China's Great Wall have signed an agreement on tourism and cultural cooperation to share the two sites' tourist resources.
Glamis Castle is a famous medieval castle and a royal residence since 1372. It is the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth and the birthplace of Princess Margaret and legendary setting for Shakespeare's masterpiece "Macbeth."
The agreement was signed by the administrative office of Glamis Castle and the China Great Wall Society. The two sides plan to boost tourism development together and exchange experiences on antique architecture protection.
The British side will train 200 Scottish students to speak Chinese and promote China's Great Wall at Scotland, while the Chinese side will hand out brochures of Glamis Castle to Chinese tourists visiting the Great Wall.
The agreement is a result of several years of communication between the two sides.
The Chinese side is particularly interested in how to repair and protect ancient buildings. At the same time, it hopes more people in Scotland will know more about the Great Wall through the agreement.
The British side says the World Tourism Organization estimates China will become the world 's fourth-largest travel market in 20 years. They hope cooperation will bring more Chinese tourists to Glamis Castle in the long run.
Previously, the Great Wall has signed a similar agreement with Egypt's Great Pyramids. |
