Gold company moves work to China
|
26-Jan-2005 - BBC |
Clogau Gold of Wales has confirmed that 14 jobs will go in north Wales as it switches production of gold jewellery to China. The company had previously moved production of its silver jewellery items from its Bodelwyddan base in north Wales to the Far East.
Company representatives said it was transferring work to the large Chinese factory to keep up with demand.
The administration side of the business will remain in north Wales.
Clogau, which set up 14 years ago, hopes to create five jobs at its administrative base, while its workshop is due to close in April.
The Clogau mine near Dolgellau closed in 1998.
Gold from the site had been used in wedding rings for members of the Royal Family, including the Queen and Prince and Princess of Wales.
The Clogau Gold company still uses gold from its reserves in its products.
