Green Mountain, Clean Air Refresh the Lungs
|
18-Apr-2002 - |
The purifying air and beautiful forests of Guangdong's "emerald" - Zhaoqing - will cleanse the body and soul of anyone wanting to escape the city's noise and pollution. The journey to Zhaoqing from GuangZhou takes about one and a half hours. Arriving at our destination, we first stopped to see Dinghu Mountain, considered the best mountain in South China. Unlike Huangshan or Taishan, which boast spectacular heights, this mountain lacks towering peaks, but instead features over 1,750 species of plants. Nestled in the mountain is Oxygen Valley, the perfect place for those seeking relaxation and revitalization. When travellers enter the valley, they are faced with a small cobblestone paved path. Residents recommend that you take a stroll on these stones to gain health benefits. Walking forward, we saw a waterfall tumbling into a big pool. This refreshing display is called Feishui Pool or "lungs washing pool." Experts say that the air in this place is the freshest in the country. It is the perfect spot to rest and rejuvenate your health. The third phase of "washing lungs pool" is the Mianlu Pavilion, which means sleeping among green in Chinese. Here, we saw a young woman dressed in red play the Chinese zither. Though the pavilion is a little artificial, we were enchanted by the charming music after our long walk. If you feel tired, you can take a bamboo boat and drift along Dinghu Lake, enjoying the blue sky, fluffy clouds, crystal water, green mountains, fresh air and sunshine. This mountain is also famous for the Buddhist temple, Qingyun Temple. It is one of the four most famous temples in South China. The temple was first built at the end of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), featuring beautiful buildings and great plants. To be a monk in such a place must leave one very happy. Besides Dinghu Mountain, there are other scenic spots in Zhaoqing city, such as Mei Nunnery and Qixing Mountain. In the downtown area, travellers can visit the ancient wall, the four towers and Yuejiang Pavilion. But I should warn you that these spots always attract a great deal of other tourists. Travel tips Go to GuangZhou first, where you can take many buses, trains and boats to Zhaoqing. Buses to the scenic spots mentioned are easy to find in the city. Most of hotels are located in the scenic spots or downtown area, so it is easy to find accommodation. Shopping: inkstones, straw mats, sandalwood fans, walking sticks and bamboo fishing rods. |
