Groups to set out for Europe

About a dozen package tour groups will leave Shenzhen for European countries in the first week of September. Organized by the city's several major package tour operators, the groups represent the first batch of package tours to 29 European countries from Shenzhen after China opened its citizens' tourist travel to European countries in July. Shenzhen Daily reported Tuesday. According to the new policy, the first Europe-bound groups will not leave the country until Sept. 1. The most popular destinations are France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Denmark and Norway, while there is less interest in southern European countries like Greece, Spain and Portugal, according to Mr. Zhang from the China Merchants International Travel Service. The Overseas Chinese Town China Travel Service said the tour fees were around 10,000 yuan (US$1,200). It cited a five-day, nine-country tour at 9,900 yuan and a 12-day tour to eight countries at about 15,000 yuan. A 13-day, 16,000-yuan package from the Shenzhen Tourism Group's Outbound-Travel Department departs Hong Kong for 15 cities in Germany and France. The 11-day, 16,800-yuan package from the Overseas Chinese Town China Travel Service departs GuangZhou for France, Switzerland, Monaco, Italy and the Vatican. We'll send our guests to famous historic sites and renowned natural scenic spots, which many Chinese have known about for a long time and have dreamed of visiting. We'll also put them in hotels of at least four stars, said Zhang, from the Overseas Chinese Town China Travel Service. Zhang also expected Europe-bound travel fees to come down as competition increases. |
