Guilin airport sees growing number of passengers

About 30,000 tourists have arrived in or left China's famous tourist destination of Guilin by air since Jan. 31, airport authorities said Thursday. Officials with Liangjiang International Airport in Guilin of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, south China, the tourists are mainly from the Republic of Korea and Hong Kong, as well as Shenzhen and GuangZhou in the neighboring province of Guangdong. About 6,200 people arrived in and left Guilin through the airport Wednesday (Feb.5), the biggest number for a single day during the Spring Festival holidays. At least 50,000 travelers are expected to visit Guilin between Jan. 31 and Feb. 7 through the airport, slightly more than that of last year. The international airport, which is capable of handling 5 million passengers annually, is 25 km from downtown Guilin. The airport has international routes to a number of Asian cities, including Fukuoka of Japan, Seoul of the Republic of Korea, and Bangkok of Thailand, in addition to 70 domestic routes to 30 cities. |
