|
26-May-2004 - |
The first joint travel agency involving a non-mainland company opened in Shenzhen on Monday (May 17). The joint venture had a registered investment of 4 million yuan (US$480,000), with 70 percent of the investment coming from a Hong Kong travel agency and the rest from a Shenzhen travel agency. The Hong Kong travel agency, Skal, was established in 1968. According to national policy, a non-mainland partner of a joint travel agency should have an annual business turnover of HK$312 million (US$40 million). However, the Hong Kong agency's annual turnover since 1995 has been ranging from HK $250 million to HK $300 million. The Hong Kong partner said the Central Government's approval showed its support for Hong Kong and Shenzhen. Yuan Jiaqi (in pinyin), the chair of Hong Kong tourism association, works as vice director of the board of the joint venture. The Hong Kong side said it would take advantage of its business resources to introduce more foreigners to travel on the mainland. The joint venture will not be allowed to organize overseas tours or tours to Hong Kong and Macao for Chinese citizens. |
