Hong Kong, Macau see arrivals surge

THE start of the Year of the Rat showed higher arrival figures for Hong Kong and Macau, with the former welcoming 1.07 million visitors and Macau receiving close to 720,000 between February 6 and 17.
The figure for Hong Kong is a 10.2 per cent increase compared to the same period last year and is from all markets. Mainland Chinese arrivals increased by 13.5 per cent to 729,614 despite severe snowstorms.
Macau's arrival figure is a slight increase of 0.45 per cent over the same period in 2007. More than 54 per cent of the arrivals were from China, about one per cent up. During the period, an average of more than 13,000 hotel rooms were booked each day, a surge of 23 per cent. The average room rate (ARR) for three- to five-star hotels was US$170, a rise of 17.7 per cent. The ARR for guesthouses was US$38, an increase of 4.94 per cent, while that of two-star hotels was US$69, a rise of 5.1 per cent. |
