Ice palace built beside Tianchi Lake

The scenic Tianchi Lake atop a mountain in Fukang County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is a world-renowned tourist resort. Many visitors even describe it as a "fairyland on earth".
It is very cold in most parts of Xinjing in winter, but not near the Tianchi Lake, where the lowest temperature is usually around 10 degrees centigrade below zero.
This year, a huge ice palace has been built beside the lake, winning for it a Guinness World Record. The palace is 10 meters tall and covers some 1,000 sq m. All the ice blocks used to build the palace were taken from the Tianchi Lake. The roof is a huge piece of Etles Silk, making the whole structure look like a huge Uygur-style skull cap.
Inside the palace, there is a 100-sq-m stage in the center. Ice sculpture are placed here and there. Amazingly, all the furniture in the palace is made of ice, too. The walls are decorated with embossment based on the prehistoric rock paintings found in various parts of Xinjiang, telling the story of the ancient inhabitants in the region.
The guests to the palace will be treated with delicious hot pots and wonderful folk song and dance shows. With the colorful illumination, the crystalline place suddenly becomes magical. Most guests admit that the ice palace will be one of the most unforgettable experiences in their lives. |
