Experts from India and Pakistan are to be involved in the renovation of the historic Yadvindra Gardens at Pinjore, 20 km from Chandigarh, the capital of Haryana state in north-central India.
Haryana Tourism managing director Vijay Vardhan said Monday that the garden and other historic monuments like Bheema Devi temple around it would be renovated with the help of experts from both India and Pakistan.
The Indian government has already sanctioned 50 million Rupees (1.1 million U.S. dollars) for the renovation project. The renovation work would be completed in the next one year, according to the Indo-Asian News Service.
The 17th century garden was built during the reign of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb by architect Nawab Fidai Khan.
The garden is popular among tourists and locals as it is virtually at the entry point of adjoining Himachal Pradesh and on the way to popular hill stations Shimla and Kasauli.
To boost tourist arrival at the garden, the tourism corporation will organize a Pinjore heritage festival Oct. 6-9 this year. Prominent artists, musicians and Sufi singers would be called for the event, Vardhan said.
