Japan Airlines starts chartered cargo flights from Xiamen
|
18-Sep-2002 - |
Japan Airlines on Monday added a temporary chartered plane to its Xiamen-Tokyo to transport Dell computers from Xiamen, a southeast China city, to Tokyo, and another is scheduled to leave for Tokyo on September 23. A Boeing 747-200 cargo plane loaded with 4,330 Dell computers took off Monday afternoon. The Japanese airline is the first overseas carrier to launch a chartered air cargo service from Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport. Dell, a US computer company, enjoyed a rapidly developed business in Xiamen. Its increasing demand for Japan-bound air cargo services prompted China Air Cargo Service Company to start six flights between Xiamen and Tokyo each week from May 8, 2001. Meanwhile, Air China, China's flagship airline, offers extra chartered cargo services when China Air Cargo Service cannot meet demand. Japan-bound air cargo from Xiamen totaled 10,561 tons during the first eight months of this year. Japan Airlines launched flights every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday between Tokyo and Xiamen in June, and another leading Japanese airline, All Nippon Airway, launched its first air route between the two cities in April. |
