Jinxian Road is a short, leafy street in Shanghai's downtown Huangpu district. Linking the bustling Shaanxi Road South and Maoming Road South, the 200-meter-long or so road was previously known as one of the city's booming art enclaves where a dozen art galleries and studios were well established.
However, in late 2008 and early 2009 when the global recession began to hit the city, many of the street's art concerns moved out due to escalating rents and sluggish business.
Now, the street is home to an assortment of restaurants, cafés, fashion boutiques and lifestyle stores, many of which are housed in old residential houses. The Global Times recently visited Jinxian Road to discover some of the dining, drinking and shopping establishments frequented by the city's homegrown hipsters and expats alike. |
