Macao's visitor spending increases 20% in 2011

Macao saw the total spending of visitors (excluding gaming expenses) reached 45.3 billion patacas (5.7 billion US dollars) in 2011, up 20 percent year-on-year, according to figures released on Monday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
In the fourth quarter of 2011, per-capita spending of visitors was 1,820 patacas, an increase of 8 percent compared with 1,682 patacas a year earlier, the figures indicated.
Analyzed by place of residence, per-capita spending of visitors from the Chinese mainland, Southeast Asia, Japan, Hong Kong amounted to 2,325 patacas (291 US dollars), 1,310 patacas (164 US dollars), 1272 patacas (159 US dollars), 1262 patacas (158 US dollars) and 917 patacas (114 US dollars) respectively, the figures showed.
Meanwhile, per-capita spending of tourists (overnight visitors) increased by 13 percent year-on-year to 3,234 patacas (404.9 US dollars), and that of same-day visitors increased by four percent to 643 patacas (80.5 US dollars).
In the fourth quarter of 2011, per-capita non-shopping spending of visitors increased by seven percent year-on-year to 878 patacas (109.9 US dollars), of which expenses on Accommodation and Food and beverage accounted for 50 percent and 34 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, per-capita shopping spending amounted to 942 patacas (117.9 US dollars) in the period. |
