Macao-Zhuhai passage adopts traffic control
|
6-Jan-2003 - |
Beginning Monday, some cargo wagons and big passenger vehicles between Zhuhai and Macao will have to pass through the Hengqin customs instead of the convenient Gongbei customs. The scheme is a temporary measure as a result of the construction of a new border-checkpoint building of the Macao, a special administration region of China. The measure will be carried out for one year to deal with burgeoning cargo and passenger flow through Gongbei. According to the scheme, some cargo wagons and passenger cars with no less than 12 seats will pass through the Hengqin customs from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. An estimated 2,000 vehicles and 6,000 people will go through. Previously, the vast majority of passengers choose to go between Macao and China's inland areas through Gongbei, as the Hengqin customs is about a dozen km away from the urban area of Zhuhai. The Hengqin customs, put into operation on March 28, 2000, has made full preparations for the expected rise in passengers and vehicles. |
