Mass wedding planned in Shenzhen

Splendid China Miniature Theme Park and China Folk Culture Villages in Shenzhen will host a mass wedding Dec. 31 through Jan. 1. Beginning at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 31, brides and bridegrooms can take their wedding photos in the Splendid China Miniature Theme Park. At 6 p.m., led by a group of musicians playing suona, a Chinese pipe instrument, the happy couples will gather for a group picture at the Phoenix Square of China Folk Culture Villages. Following the photo, the couples will get their marriage licenses from civic officials and go through traditional wedding rituals such as bowing to Heaven and Earth and drinking each other's wine. The ceremony will be followed by a grand banquet, which will also feature small shows. Park employees from different ethnic groups will toast the newlyweds, each according to their custom. Following the dinner, a grand show will be held at the Dai Village Square. On New Year's Day the newlyweds will parade through the folk culture villages. During the parade, they will release pigeons, take part in a wedding performance, a dragon boat race and plant trees to symbolize the hope that their love will be evergreen. According to a park manager, anyone who plans to get married Dec. 31 or Jan. 1 will receive free admission to the park to participate in the mass wedding. |
