More Young Chinese People Have Wills Notarized
|
15-Apr-2004 - |
To make one's will is thought to be something done in one's old age. However, as learned from Harbin Notarization Office in Heilongjiang Province in northeast China now it is nothing rare to see young people have their wills notarized. Young testament clients are mostly those who've been caught by some diseases, or concerned about their safety as they often have to travel a long distance on business and they are open-minded, said Mr. Hong, an official at the Notarization Office. Some young people filed their wills here out of the consideration of their illness. A young man was in the incurable period of stomach cancer. His family phoned to Hong's office asking for a notarization for his will. With a certification issued by the hospital proving his clear consciousness, he had his wills notarized smoothly after two notarization officials visited him at home, took photos and video of him and had his personal signature. Another young man with heart-trouble stated in his will to leave his inheritance to his kid. The second reason is to prevent disputes over inheritance after marriages. Many young couples have wills to keep happy families. Most of them are remarried. They generally leave their property to their kids born to their ex-wives or ex-husbands. This takes place most commonly in families of remarried couples who already have kids and property before they get remarried. Wealth also gives a reason for this behavior. Millionaires or billionaires have appeared and are increasing. It is exciting to have more wealth. But one can never prepare for accidents. Some people getting rich before others choose to have their wills made. A businessman at the age of around 30 with more than 1 million-yuan assets has had his wills notarized. Some main clients include salespersons and stewardesses who always have to travel a lot and face high risks for their safety. An expert from Heilongjiang Academy of Social Sciences thought that to have one's wills notarized was quite common in foreign countries. He thought now it was a sign of social progress that more young people began to do the same. As people have built up more wealth and more young people have made fortune, they naturally pay more attention to their wealth distribution. Apparently having their wills notarized proved a stronger awareness of law among young people who have a better idea about self-protection. On the other hand, young people are ready to accept new ideas. They are not afraid of thinking about death. They have faith in science and law. |
