National Theatre Plans Performance in Advance
|
13-Feb-2004 - |
China's Ministry of Culture is set to arrange the first batch of performances for the National Grand Theatre in downtown Beijing, two years before it is put into use.
The first round of performances will include domestic classic and newly-produced plays, as well as shows brought by renowned overseas groups.
The theatre, next to the Great Hall of the People and diagonally opposite from the Forbidden City, is expected to be in operation by the end of next year.
Designed by Frenchman Paul Andreu, it will include three main parts: an opera house, a concert hall and a drama theatre.
The theatre has come a long way to reach its audience as late Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai approved its establishment 40 years ago.
