New underwater hotel for Shanghai

SHIMAO Group, one of China's fast-growing property development groups, will build the first underwater five-star hotel in China. Due to open in 2009, the Shanghai Shimao Wonderland will be located in Sheshan in Shanghai's Songjian District, where Shimao opened a five-star Meridian Hotel earlier this year.
According to the Shimao Group, the five-star hotel will be built on the site of an abandoned quarry. Situated next to an artificial lake, the hotel will feature 300 rooms above water, as well as some underwater rooms and restaurants. A shopping complex, additional restaurants, entertainment and sporting facilities will surround the hotel.
The Shimao Group said that Sheshan is becoming a main scenic spot on the outskirts of Shanghai. The Shanghai Shimao Wonderland will be the fourth hotel for the company in Shanghai, with ten more five-star hotels planned for China over the next five years. |
