Nokia opens R&D center in Chengdu

Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia Corp said on Monday that it has established a research and development center for mobile infrastructure in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province. "The R&D center will develop mobile applications based on 3G and IP Multimedia Subsystem for both Chinese and global markets," the company said. Nokia Chengdu R&D center is the company's sixth R&D unit and second 3G R&D center in China. With strong local R&D, manufacturing and innovative technologies, Nokia has continuously strengthened its market position in China as the number one supplier of mobile devices and a leading supplier of mobile networks. "Nokia is delighted to establish a new R&D centre in this part of China." said David Ho, President of Nokia China. "This marks another important step forward for Nokia in implementing its localization strategy. On the other hand, this R&D Center will further strengthen our partnership with and our market position in this important economic center of China." No financial details for the plant are available up to now. |
