During the holidays for the China National Day, the number of tourists visiting the main 124 attractions has exceeded 5 million per day, surpassing every statistic of the past.
BEIJING (Xinhua) -- Chinese tourist attractions received about 25.7 million visitors from Wednesday to Sunday, the first five days of the seven-day National Day Holiday, while self-driving travel is favored by an increasing number of Chinese, official data showed. The figure edged up about 1.6 percent from the same period last year, according to the China National Tourism Administration. The data were collected from 124 tourist sites across the country. Nearly 5.1 million people visited these tourist attractions on Sunday alone, representing an increase of 3.2 percent from the previous year, and more visitors are choosing short trips and self-driving journeys, said the administration.
Many special trains to allow 11.73 million trips
Also the travelers by train have increased significantly, more than 10%. About 9.1 million train trips were forecast to be made on Sunday, the fifth day of the National Day Holiday, up 10.9 percent from last year, the China Railway Corporation said on Sunday. On Sunday, the rail operator dispatched 324 additional trains to accommodate the holiday rush, in an effort to guarantee all passengers reach their destinations. Earlier data showed that nearly 11.73 million trips were made on Oct. 1, a record high.
Tourists have spent more than 1 billion yuan in major Chinese attractions
BEIJING (Xinhua) -- Chinese tourist attractions received 20.61 million visitors from Wednesday to Saturday, the first four days of the seven-day National Day holiday, official data showed. The figure was up 1.25 percent from the same period last year, according to the China National Tourism Administration. The data were collected from 124 tourist sites across the country. Ticket revenue from tourists was 1.07 billion yuan (175.22 million U.S. dollars) in the first four days, down 4.75 percent from the same period last year.

Scenic spots have been providing catering and entertainment, though widespread temperature drops have dampened many people's travel plans, according to the administration. The scenic spots have been promoting etiquette during travel, such as orderly queueing and litter prevention. Trash removed from Tian'anmen Square after the flag-raising ceremony on Oct. 1 was about 30 percent less than a year earlier, according to the administration. About 92.7 million trips are expected to be made during the 10-day travel rush ending Tuesday, up 12.9 percent from the previous year, the corporation predicted last month. |
