Once again proving its position as a pioneer in reforming traditional business models, South China's Guangdong Province launched a nationwide tourism information pilot project at the end of March. Via a pioneering online travel agency in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, people can quickly conclude all their tourism application procedures and make payments. Sponsored by the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA), the project, which goes under the title of "The Golden Tourism Project," was started at the beginning of this year and aims at promoting e-commerce in the country. The project includes an internal office network, a business management network, a public commerce network and a comprehensive database. "The project will be completed within three years to meet the rising demand from domestic tourists," said Gu Chaoxi, vice-chairman of the CNTA. By the end of 2000, more than 300 tourism websites had been registered in China, according to the administration's statistics. In the competitive tourist market, online tourist business enables people to spend less time planning, but see more scenic spots and get more information. |
