About one fifth of individual bank clients and 10 percent of corporate clients in China's 10 major cities are already enjoying online services -- and users will surge, a recent survey shows.

Conducted by the China Financial Certification Authority (CFCA), the survey covered bank clients in 10 economically dynamic cities, including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

More than 35 percent of the individual respondents and 25.5 percent of enterprises expressed they would get online for banking services in the upcoming year.

The figures indicate that the "prospects of online banking are very bright," the CFCA said in a statement.

Leading Chinese banks are providing services such as payment of fees and transfers between bank accounts through the Internet.

The majority of respondents said they, however, have no access to online services and do not have such plans in the near future.

Other factors cited for the lack of interest in online banking include that "Consumers do no know about online banking" and "Consumers worry about online safety".

For current users, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) -- the country's biggest bank with business outlets almost everywhere -- was their favorite.
