21-Nov-2005 - People's Daily |
A signing ceremony between CNR Tangshan Locomotive & Rolling Stock Works and Siemens over the purchase of 60 motor train units, with a speed over 300 km per hour, was signed November 20 in Beijing, which will be delivered upon December 2009 and raise China's percentage of home-made express trains to over 70 percent.
All these 60 units of trains will bear Chinese brand, said an official from the Ministry of Railways, including 3 of them imported from Germany and all the rest produced by the Tangshan plant. 24 months after the contract takes effect, that is, from the end of 2007 to the beginning of 2008, the first home-made motor train unit would roll off production line and all of the 60 sets will be delivered by December, 2009.
Through introducing technologies and manufacturing at home, the Tangshan company will be able to design and produce train unit with a speed of 300 km per hour. This will be done through three stages, during which the percentage of China-made trains will be 30, 50 and 70 percent respectively.
The project was launched through public bidding in 2004. By 2006, home-made train unites with a speed of 200 km per hour will be produced and put into operation. The trains purchased this time are products based on German ICE trains and represent the world most advanced level in this area.
