Overseas firms in Shenzhen listed as models

A total of 224 overseas companies in Shenzhen were listed as national model firms for 2004 in terms of export volume and gross profit by the Ministry of Commerce.
The total number of the city's award winning companies is up by 34 from 2003 in the annual ranking, the Shenzhen Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment announced yesterday.
The export volume of these model enterprises amounted to US$32.78 billion, or 42 percent of the city's total export volume, said Wang Chuanliu, associate secretary of the association.
Among the companies, three were among the top 10 in export volume, namely Hongfujin Precision Industry (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd., International Information Products (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd. (IIPC) and China International Marine Containers (Group) Co. Ltd.
Overseas companies with an export volume exceeding US$2 million and gross profit above 2 million yuan (US$247,000) would qualify as national models, Wang said.
Shenzhen has led other major Chinese cities in export volume for 13 consecutive years, Wang said.
Meanwhile, eight Shenzhen hotels, including Shanghai Hotel, Nanhai Hotel and Shangri-la Hotel Shenzhen, were listed as best hotels with foreign investment in China by the ministry.
