Passenger traffic rises

Passenger traffic at China Southern Airlines jumped 16.7 per cent in August from the same month last year when the airline industry was still recovering from the SARS outbreak, the country's largest carrier said.
China Southern, which is based in the southern metropolis of Guangzhou, said it carried 2.68 million people in August - less than the 2.7 million passengers it carried in July. International traffic jumped 92.8 per cent on an annual basis, while domestic passengers rose 12.7 per cent. The carrier said it filled 76.3 per cent of seats available and hauled 43,890 tons of cargo, up 6.8 per cent from August 2003.
