Per capita GDP in Yangtze River Delta passes US$4,000

The 2004 per capita gross domestic product (GDP) of the Yangtze River Delta was 35,147 yuan (about 4,247 US dollars), 5,914 yuan (713 dollars) more than 2003, China's National Bureau of Statistics said Monday. The total GDP of the delta, one of China's most developed regions, was 2.88 trillion yuan (346.74 billion dollars) in 2004, 21 percent of the nation's GDP. Per capita GDP of nine of the region's 16 cities was more than 30,000 yuan (3,614 dollars). The growth rate of the cities ranged from 12 to 17.5 percent. Revenue in the local budgets of the 16 cities reached 242 billion yuan (29.16 billion dollars), 44.7 billion yuan (5.38 billion dollars) more than in 2003. The income of per capita was 13,481 yuan (1,624 dollars), up 13.7 percent year-on-year. The expenditure on consumption per capita was 9,685 yuan (1,167), up 11.5 percent year-on-year. Shanghai ranked first in the region in per capita GDP, citizens' income and budget revenue. The Yangtze River Delta covers 16 cities including Shanghai and15 cities in east China's Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. |
