|
6-Aug-2004 - |
(www.crienglish.com 2004-07-29) The maintenance project of the Potala Palace, the most holy shrine in Tibet, is proceeding as planned with good quality restoration of the original style. A management official says in Lhasa that renovation of two sites has been approved and work on 10 other sites in the palace is in progress. The basement of the red hall, in the upper part of the palace, has turned out to be the most arduous task for the construction workers, archeologists and architects. It is the second large-scale renovation of the Potala Palace. The initial one was undertaken in 1989 at a cost of six million dollars. It took six years to complete. The Potala Palace was first built by the Tibetan King Songtsa Gambo in the 7th century during the Tang Dynasty. |
