Tibet should make use the opportunities created by the Qinghai-Tibet railway to speed up construction of new countryside, said Zhang Qingli, Secretary of the Party Committee in Tibet Autonomous Region.
In the first nine months of year, the amount of capital invested in Tibet increased by 25 percent based on the same period of last year.
At present, as many as 6,000 tourists visit Tibet every day, which has boosted the development of tourism in Tibet as well as related industries.
The amount of cargo freighted to and out of Tibet has increased sharply since the opening of the Qinghai-Tibet railway. It is predicted that 300,000 tons of cargo will be transported this year. Most of this cargo transported to Tibet will be food, coal, living commodities and construction materials, and mostly chromium ore, boron ore and iron ore will be transported out of Tibet.
