|
27-Apr-2002 - |
Guangzhou-Qingyuan With hot springs, rocky caves, forests and rivers, Qingyuan of South China's Guangdong Province boasts well-developed and well-preserved natural scenery. Feijia Mountain lies 30 kilometres northeast to the town of Qingyuan. Besides forests and river valleys, Feixia Cave is located in the mountain, where there is the largest temple in China used for the worship of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. If you love sports, you can drift in rubber yachts along a river in the Bijia Mountain Valley. The upper reaches of the river, 6 kilometres long, offer a safe journey. You can enjoy the green mountains as you get thrilled by currents pushing the small yacht, which only has room for two. The cost for a standard trip is 138 yuan (US$16). The lower reaches of the river, 2.5 kilometres long, is for the more daring. In the river are large stones, sharp turnings, shoals and rapids. The water volume here is five times that of the upper reaches, and the greatest drop is 2.5 metres. The cost for such a trip is 238 yuan (US$28). Besides yacht drifting, you can also go grass-skiing in Sankeng County, where there is one of the biggest mountain grass-skiing fields in China. The field, 500 metres long and 300 metres wide, is divided into the amateur area and the professional area. The ticket to the field is 60 yuan (US$7) per hour. After sports, you can take a bath in the hot springs of Sankeng. Travel route: Take a bus at the Guangdong Provincial Bus Station in GuangZhou to arrive in Qingyuan in 90 minutes. From the station there is a bus to Qingyuan every 15 to 30 minutes, costing 30 yuan (US$3.60). On arrival in Qingyuan, you can take a taxi to the city's old bus station, where there are buses to the hot springs or to the Feixia Mountain. You can also take a taxi to the hot springs, which will cost you about 60 yuan (US$7). Accommodation: You can stay in a villa by the hot springs. A room in the villa costs 100 to 600 yuan (US$12.05-72.29) per night. You can also pay 50 yuan (US$6.02) and spend a night in the hostel. If you choose to spend the night in the downtown area of Qingyuan, you will find hotel rooms for a range of budgets. Most rooms cost about 150 yuan (US$18.07) per night, but the price may double in the holidays. You can have fresh shrimps and fish on the boats anchored in the Beijiang River in the town of Qingyuan. A dinner for two on the boat costs about 100 yuan (US$12.05). After dinner you can walk along the river, have fried river snails, barbecues and ice-cream. Specialities: The specialities of Qingyuan include the Mahuang chicken, Wuzong goose, Yingde tea and the jujube. |
