A delegation from the Republic of Korea (ROK) on a survey tour here said it is confident of planting trees to improve the eco-environment in the karst regions of Guizhou Province, southwest China.
Chang Hyun-sik, head of the delegation, made the remark in a meeting recently with Vice Governor Lu Zhiming in Guiyang, the provincial capital.
The six-member delegation was investigating available programs in Guizhou for the Sino-ROK cooperative project to plant trees in five western Chinese provinces.
Guizhou, one of the candidate provinces, plans to plant 2,700 hectares of woods in its vast karst regions to improve the environment, which will cost a total investment of 2 million US dollars, 1 million of which will be provided by the ROK government.
Guizhou has a forest coverage of 30 percent, with 34 natural reserves. However, the majority of its territory is karst type, and planting trees in these regions remains a challenging problem.
