Russian Folk Culture Museum for Xinjiang

A new Russian folk culture museum will provide visitors with a glimpse into the history of the Burqin county in northwest China's Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region when it opens at the end of June.
Lying close to the Russian border in the Altay region in Xinjiang, Burqin has close ancient ties with its large neighbor. It's one of several ethnic Russian settlements in China with a large Russian population.
To show the region's historic links to Russia, the museum will display a number of artifacts donated by local residents, including accordions, spinning wheels, coins and home appliances.
A local official said he hoped the museum would make visitors stay more worthwhile by giving them a taste of the county's cultural atmosphere.
Burqin is home to the famous Kanasi Lake, one of the most celebrated scenic areas in China. As the lake's fame has grown, it has attracted increasing numbers of tourists from home and abroad in recent years. |
