Shandong Province Reports Big Rise in Foreign Trade

Shandong Province, in east China, registered 2.99 billion US dollars in total foreign trade volume in January, 30 percent more than the same period last year. The province's total exports in the first month were valued at US$1.68 billion and imports were valued at US$1.31 billion, up 18 percent and 49 percent respectively over last year, according to statistics from the Customs of Qingdao, a port city of Shandong. The trade volume between Shandong and the Republic of Korea (ROK), Japan, the United States and European Union, all major trade partners of the eastern China province, grew by 49 percent, 26 percent, 9 percent and 11 percent respectively over last year. Shandong's trade volume with the ROK was more than US$700 million. The trade volume for foreign-funded and state-owned enterprises was US$1.67 million and US$870 million respectively, accounting for 55.8 percent and 29 percent of the province's total for January. |
