East China's Shandong Province received 1.55 million overseas tourists in 2005, up 30 percent from 2004, the provincial tourism administration announced Friday.
Shandong reported 793 million US dollars of foreign exchange in tourism revenue from overseas visitors in 2005, up 39.75 percent from 2004, the administration said.
Apart from 300,000 tourists from China's Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao regions, the remaining 1.25 million visitors were from a dozen of countries in America, Europe and Asia, up 30 percent fromthe previous year.
In 2005, Shandong launched a series of tourist activities during China's "golden week" holidays and held tourism promotions across the country and in some foreign countries to attract more visitors, according to the administration.
Shandong is famous for tourist attractions such as the prestigious Taishan Mountain, hometown of Confucius and Daming Lake in its capital, Jinan.
